The Eternal City's McDonald's/Nightlife

8/21/2021

One thing the CIEE staff recommended to us was to try the McDonald's here in Italy. Fortunately, there was one less than 10 minutes from my apartment, so I made the trip there during my first weekend here. One thing I appreciate about Rome as a whole, is that they require you to show your Green Pass (or CDC card along with your passport) before allowing you to eat inside. It's a good aspect of the culture shock that I have experienced. I ordered some new items from the touch screen menu and I was definitely not disappointed with my choices.

Tonight I went to a bar for the first time with my flatmates and a few more CIEE students. Taking the tram at 11pm is so much more peaceful than during the day. I wasn't too excited about going out, I usually only go out once in every blue moon when I'm at home. But, I am in a very different location and experience new things, so what the heck 💁🏽‍♀️. The bar we went to was called The Drunken Ship. There was a mix of people of all ages, with predominately Italians occupying the area. I met people I did not talk to during orientation, and everyone was generally nice and cordial. Not much happened at this bar, it was more of like a relaxed area overall. It was, as in the words of my flatmate, “dinner without food.” We then walked to an Irish bar and fraternized over drinks for about 45 minutes. At this point, my social meter desperately needed a recharge, and I was so happy when the people who I live with were ready to go. I am glad I went to see what Rome was like at night, but it is probably not something I would run to do again.

Vanilla milkshake(served with a paper straw), Crispy Chicken McBacon, Le Ricce Cheese & Bacon fries, chicken McNuggets and sweet and sour sauce.
